Painting a controller....The right way..

Post by DJKILLAG on Thu Sep 25, 2008 2:47 pm

Tools you will need: security torqures bit size T 9
small phillips screwdriver

Step 1. Taking apart the controller....

1. Remove the battery pack.

2. Take out the 7 screws. The last screw is under the barcode in the battery pack compartment. See picture below for locations.

3. Gently pull the controller apart.

4. Gently remove the circuit board from the controller. Gently lifting up on the 2 grey pieces will help remove the circuit board.

5. Remove the grey rubber pads. Becareful the buttons will just fall out. Then remove the buttons.

6. For the D-pad you will need to take out the 2 little screws in the D-pad. Then push the clip inwards and pull apart. See picture below.

7. Remove the bumpers by lifting up and out. Do the same with the bottom grey trim piece.

8. Now screw the empty controller back together. You only need a couple of screws, enough to hold it together. Then Wipe clean.

Step 2. Painting the controller....

1. Hang the controller. You'll want it alittle below eye level.

2. First spray the controller with primer. You will need to apply multiple coats untill the original color is not visable. Let dry for 5 to 10 minutes.

3. The base coat will be the darkest color. For the base coat you will spray the entire controller with multiple coats until the primer is not visable. Let dry 5 to 10 minutes.

4. Now take the medium color. spin the controller and mist it, until desired look is reached. Let dry 5 to 10 minutes.

5. Now take the lightest color. Spin the controller and mist it, until desired look is reached. Let the controller dry for 1 hour.

6. Wash the controller. So it dosen't get sticky when you play.

Step 3. Putting the controller back together.

1. Put the bumpers and the grey trim piece back in.

2. Put the buttons back in the correct holes. Look at the pictures above in the tutorial if you need help. Also put the D-pad back in. When puting the screws back in make sure not to over tighten.

3. Now put the grey rubber pieces over the buttons and the D-pad. Make sure they go on right. Look at the picture in the tutorial when you had to remove them.

4. Now place the cirucit board back in the controller. Carefull not to move the rubber pieces while doing this.

5. Now put the bottom piece of the controller over the circuit board. Make sure the battery terminals go into the battery compartment slots.

6. Now put all the screws back in their holes. Be sure not to overtighten. Just get them snug. Now you have a finished product.

Hey i'll upload them when i get a better internet connection.
I did fuck up, but to my defense it was night time, and being that it was 60 degrees out, i didnt give them enough time to dry.
